"The Redhead", Zig & Tom Beal

From the moment I heard my 1st Zig Ziglar audiotape in 1990 I knew my life would never be the same. Zig’s words inspired me to want more from my self, so I could be a better person and be, do, and have all that I could ever imagine in my lifetime.

That set in motion my desire to study the masters of the personal development genre from people like: Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Earl Nightingale, Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone, Joe Vitale, Jack Canfield, and compile a huge library of Nightingale-Conant audios and videos, plus hundreds of books by these and other authors that I devoured.

After my four year tour in the United States Marine Corps I found myself in the corporate world of sales and continued my unquenchable thirst for more techniques, systems, strategies, and wisdom to assist me in being a better person and in turn a better sales person.

One of the steps that I took was compiling a front and back sheet of paper that had some of the most important to me quotes, sayings and strategies that I could keep in my shirt pocket to pull out while in waiting areas or during any down time.

As time went on, the sheets would change based upon new books I had read and new quotes that had meaning to me, but there was one sheet that had to be printed out many times due to it wearing out from being folded and unfolded so many times.

Then came a meeting with one of my mentors through books and articles in my Business Journal, Jeffrey Gitomer. I recall the date and the meeting well as it was 12/31/01 at Einstein Bagels in Charlotte, NC, 8am, I believe.

After a brief chat with this best selling author who had positively impacted my life and hundreds of thousands of others, somehow the topic of a sheet of paper he used to carry with him at all times came up, and I pulled my sheet of paper out and showed it to him.

He told me that he had wished he’d laminated and saved his sheet of paper, and told me to be sure to do that, otherwise it would get lost in the shuffle of life. So I did.

This sheet of paper was carried with me as I transitioned from copier sales in Rochester, NY, to selling advertising in Charlotte, NC, and several other huge life changes such as buying my 1st 2 homes, getting married, having my 1st child, and leaving corporate America & becoming an entrepreneur.

I’m typing this blog post on a flight from Buffalo, NY, to Phoenix, AZ, and have this very sheet with me still over 10 years later. It still motivates me and keeps me on track when I review it regularly.

My hope is that it will do the same for you. Enjoy!

Make Today Great!
